Personal data leaks are no longer a distant concern in France, even for high-ranking officials. This includes the Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu. The mobile phone number of Sébastien Lecornu was found online. According to information from Le Canard Enchaîné, the mobile phone number of the head of government may have been leaked online. "Personal information of the head of government has ended up in the depths of the internet," it was further noted. The cause was a 2024 cyberattack on Le Slip Français, a well-known French underwear brand. Le Canard Enchaîné took the opportunity to list the number of ministers who also suffered from similar data leaks. It was estimated that 25 of the 36 members of the Lecornu government had some of their data available for free access on the internet. In the case of Sébastien Lecornu, the issue dates back to 2024, when he was still the Minister of Defense and a customer of the famous brand Le Slip Français. The company had been the victim of a cyberattack that year, which allowed attackers to extract data from as many as 1.5 million customers. It should be noted that Sébastien Lecornu is not the most affected member of his government. For example, the deputy minister for Digital Affairs, Anne Le Hénanff, currently has her social security number and her bank details from the Caisse d'Épargne circulating freely. According to calculations by Le Canard Enchaîné, more than two-thirds of the government members, from Sébastien Lecornu to Jean-Didier Berger, had some of their personal data exploited. The incident highlights the growing vulnerability of even high-profile individuals to data breaches and the challenges of securing personal information in the digital age.
