Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic and Taylor Townsend of the United States have won the women's doubles title at the US Open, completing a career Grand Slam as a team. This means they have now claimed all four of the major tennis tournaments—Wimbledon, the US Open, the Australian Open, and the French Open—in doubles competition. In a tightly contested final, the top-seeded pair defeated American wildcards Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery with scores of 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 at Flushing Meadows in New York. This victory marks Siniakova's 12th Grand Slam doubles title overall, making her the first player in history to achieve a career Grand Slam with two different partners. She previously completed this feat with her compatriot Barbora Krejcikova. Townsend, who is also 30 years old, won her first US Open doubles title with Siniakova. Last year, she reached the final with Siniakova but lost to Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe. The match was a rollercoaster for the top seeds. Siniakova and Townsend had not lost a set in the tournament before the final, but they dropped the first set after the Czech player made three double faults in the final game. They bounced back strongly in the second set, winning 23 of 27 points after the first game to force a third set. From there, they remained in control, taking an early break to lead 3-1 and eventually securing the match. Siniakova is one of only eight women to have won at least 12 Grand Slam doubles titles in the Open era, which began in 1968. If she finishes the season as the world number one in doubles, it will be the sixth time she has achieved this ranking, surpassing the record previously held by Martina Navratilova in WTA history.
