Zverev nears number one ranking

Alexander Zverev, currently ranked second in the ATP men's tennis rankings with 9,750 points, is set to become world number one starting next Monday, November 2. He does not need to win the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna to achieve this; reaching the quarterfinals would be enough.

Sinner loses points due to injury

Jannik Sinner, who is currently ranked first with 10,450 points, will lose 1,000 points from his 2025 Paris Masters 1000 title next Monday. This reduction is due to a right knee injury that forced him to end his season early, bringing his total down to 9,450 points.

Zverev's path to the quarterfinals

Zverev's route to the quarterfinals in Vienna includes a first-round match against Martin Landaluce. If he wins, he could face either Tallon Griekspoor or Brandon Nakashima in the second round. Successfully reaching the quarterfinals would secure his position as the new number one.

Ranking tiebreaker rules apply

If Zverev reaches the quarterfinals, the ATP rankings would use points from Grand Slams, mandatory Masters 1000 events, and the ATP Finals to determine the tiebreaker. In this scenario, Zverev would have 8,360 points, while Sinner would have 8,350, giving Zverev a ten-point advantage.

Zverev would be second German number one

If Zverev achieves this, he will become the second German to reach the number one spot, following Boris Becker in 1991. He would also be the 30th player in history to hold the ATP top ranking.
