John Torode has revealed that he no longer maintains any personal contact with his former MasterChef co-presenter, Gregg Wallace, stating their relationship was always strictly professional. Wallace, 61, was removed from the BBC’s popular cooking show in July 2025 after an independent investigation confirmed 45 allegations of misconduct against him, while 38 other claims were not proven. Torode also left the show around the same time amid allegations that he had used racist language, reportedly linked to a 2019 wrap party where he sang along to Kanye West’s song "Gold Digger." In a recent interview with The Times, Torode described the period of the show’s changes as "stressful," reflecting on his life since leaving MasterChef and his current work hosting a YouTube cooking show with his wife, Lisa Faulkner, an actress and presenter. When asked about his former co-presenter, Torode said he no longer interacts with Wallace, explaining, "When we filmed, we filmed and when we didn't, we weren't in touch. Why would it change now?" This statement echoes what Torode had previously said about their relationship while MasterChef was still on air. During an appearance on the BBC radio show Desert Island Discs, Torode had remarked, "[Wallace is] a friend, don't get me wrong, but I don't go to the pub with him, we've both not been to each other's houses... we just don't do it." When the allegations against Wallace first emerged, Torode issued a statement calling them "truly upsetting" and expressing concern about the experiences of those who had appeared on the show. MasterChef continues to air on BBC One, now hosted by Grace Dent and Anna Haugh, replacing the original duo. Torode said he does not currently watch the show, a habit he maintained even during his time as a presenter. He praised Dent, with whom he worked on Celebrity MasterChef, saying, "I watched MasterChef very, very infrequently because hearing your own voice is weird," and added, "But right now, I don't think it's necessary for me to watch it. What I will say is that I love Grace and I loved working with her."
