According to Valve's latest monthly hardware survey, the Radeon RX 9070 XT, a graphics card from AMD, achieved a market share of 1.46 percent in August 2026. This is up from 1.40 percent in July and 1.35 percent in June. This growth marks a symbolic shift for AMD, as the RX 9070 XT has now surpassed the RX 6600, which had previously been the most common AMD graphics card on the Steam platform. The RX 6600's market share dropped to 0.85 percent, while the newer RX 9060 XT holds 0.82 percent.
While the RX 9070 XT's market share is growing, it still lags significantly behind NVIDIA's top models. The GeForce RTX 5070 holds 3.77 percent of the market, with the RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti at 3.16 percent and 2.55 percent respectively. Although AMD has made progress with its own line of cards, NVIDIA continues to dominate the overall Steam market.
Valve recently updated how it identifies certain AMD RDNA 4 graphics cards in its hardware survey. Cards like the RX 9070 XT, RX 9070, and RX 9060 XT are now listed separately, providing more accurate data. This change means the increase in the RX 9070 XT's market share doesn't reflect a sudden shift in user preferences, but rather a more precise understanding of how RDNA 4 cards are distributed across Steam.
AMD can take some satisfaction from the fact that the RX 9070 XT now has a market share comparable to, and even slightly higher than, NVIDIA's RTX 3080, which has a 1.38 percent share. However, NVIDIA's transition to the newer Blackwell generation is progressing, with the RTX 5070 leading the way at 3.77 percent. Even the more expensive RTX 5070 Ti holds 1.82 percent of the market.
Despite the RX 9070 XT's progress, NVIDIA remains the dominant force in the graphics card market. According to Valve's August data, NVIDIA holds 72.88 percent of the market, compared to AMD's 18.68 percent and Intel's 8.03 percent. While the adoption of AMD's RDNA 4 architecture is a positive development, the battle between AMD and NVIDIA is far from over.
