Between the return of rain and bright sunshine, a sawtooth weather pattern has characterized the last days of September in France. As the country transitions from September to October, the weather is showing signs of change with alternating conditions across the region. Starting with Monday, September 28, a thunderstorm is expected to sweep from Nouvelle-Aquitaine to Hauts-de-France early in the morning, bringing with it more or less moderate showers in the affected areas. Temperatures across the country will range from 18°C in Rennes to 24°C in Paris, with some regions experiencing warmer conditions. In Normandy and from Bordeaux to Metz—where Pope Léon XVI is holding the last mass of his apostolic journey in France—the weather will be mostly cloudy. Temperatures will be higher in the south, reaching 26°C in Metz, 27°C in Bourges, and 28°C in Bordeaux. Clear skies will be limited to the southern part of the country, with Nice and Corsica enjoying bright sunshine and temperatures of 25°C and 28°C, respectively. Even in areas with cloudy skies, temperatures will rise, with 30°C in Tarbes and 28°C in Lyon. On Tuesday, thunderstorms will take a break, giving way to very cloudy skies across the country, but the atmosphere will remain warm for the end of September. By the afternoon, Météo-France reports temperatures reaching 26°C in Nantes and Nice, 27°C in Toulouse, Montélimar, Tours, and Paris, 28°C in Ajaccio and Auxerre, and up to 31°C in Bordeaux. However, by Wednesday, thunderstorms will return, starting from the extreme south via Perpignan in the late afternoon and continuing through the night and into the following day along the coast, particularly in Montpellier. Meanwhile, rain will affect Brittany and spread to Hauts-de-France early in the morning, continuing to cover most of France by the end of the evening. Thunderstorms are even expected in Lille, Paris, Limoges, Bordeaux, and Biarritz. On Wednesday, Météo-France forecasts temperatures between 19°C in Brest and 25°C in Paris in the north-eastern quarter of the country, with fluctuations between 26°C and 27°C in Burgundy, Alsace, and Lorraine. Despite the weather disturbances, temperatures in the south will reach up to 28°C in Bordeaux, 27°C in Toulouse, and 26°C in Marseille. By Thursday and Friday, thunderstorms will have dissipated, though some rain will continue in the east of France. Temperatures will stabilize, ranging from 18°C to 21°C in the north and 22°C to 24°C in the south. Rain is expected to persist through the end of the week, with more precipitation anticipated mainly in the south as October begins.
