Pierre Gasly has spoken out about the "disturbing" abuse his family and girlfriend have faced from fans of his teammate, Franco Colapinto, following the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid. The incident occurred after Gasly held up Colapinto during the race, though Colapinto finished seventh and did not lose his position. Colapinto reportedly expressed his frustration about the situation over the team radio. Gasly revealed that this is not the first time Colapinto's supporters have targeted him, as threats on social media have previously been made against him and his loved ones. Gasly described the abuse as "a little bit disturbing for our sport," emphasizing that while criticism is a part of being a top athlete, the nature and extent of the threats—particularly those directed at family members and a girlfriend—are inappropriate. He noted that such behavior has not been as common in the past and called for Formula 1 to become a "healthier place." Gasly acknowledged that being liked or disliked is normal in sports, but stressed that certain lines should not be crossed, especially when people are anonymous behind screens and keyboards. Alpine, the team both Gasly and Colapinto are part of, has previously addressed online abuse. Last year, the team released a statement condemning the abuse after Colapinto's fans targeted Yuki Tsunoda, another driver, over an incident at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Earlier this season, Alpine also issued an 11-page statement in response to accusations of "sabotage" directed at Colapinto, showing the team's ongoing efforts to address such issues. Colapinto acknowledged that Gasly received messages from fans but said he had not seen them himself, as he is not active on social media. He emphasized that he and Gasly have a good working relationship and share the goal of improving Alpine. Colapinto expressed hope that the abuse would stop, noting that similar incidents have occurred with other drivers, including Tsunoda, and that he had previously spoken to stewards about abuse following a penalty he received. Gasly, who recently achieved his first-ever Formula 1 pole position in Monza, currently leads the team standings with 41 points, compared to Colapinto's 27 points. This marks a strong year for Alpine as both drivers continue to compete at a high level.
