Sales of Ghost of Yōtei remain strong
According to an analysis by La voie de la Popularité, sales of Ghost of Yōtei are trailing behind those of Ghost of Tsushima but remain strong. Rhys Elliott, a marketing analyst at Alinea Analytics, stated that sales figures have not yet been confirmed by Sony but can still provide insight into Ghost of Yōtei's performance on PlayStation 5.Estimated sales and revenue
The analysis estimates Ghost of Yōtei sales at approximately 5.4 million copies, generating to date $407 million in revenue. Key points from this update indicate that physical sales account for a notable percentage of 36.8%, while promotions on the PlayStation Store remain generally rare.Digital sales and player engagement
Nearly 500,000 copies were sold just in the third quarter of 2026. Alinea also indicated that 50,000 players purchased the complete digital edition—which includes new content, including the recently released expansion "Echoes of Sekigahara"—during the two weeks following its launch by PlayStation in place of the base digital game. The analysis estimates that approximately 6% of its existing player base returned to discover this new content, suggesting that Ghost of Yōtei is on the rise.Comparison with Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima, released in July 2020 on a market still grappling with pandemic-related lockdowns, had generated approximately $418 million at the same stage of its life cycle, added Elliott in a complementary article. Considering the base price of Yōtei ($70) compared to that of Tsushima ($60), as well as the discounts that followed, it is estimated that the latter sold nearly 7 million copies at this stage.Revenue comparison and market factors
Our estimates show that Yōtei has generated revenue of $407 million. At this point, aligned with launch, Ghost of Tsushima had made $418 million, so about 3% more. As Yōtei costs $70, and has had just two discounts, and Tsushima was $60 at launch (and was already discounted to $45 less than three months post-launch), Tsushima had sold more copies at this point. Nearly 7 million versus Yōtei's 5.4 million. This is about 26% more revenue per buyer, which is consistent with PlayStation's goal of extracting more revenue per player.Market context and future outlook
That said, Yōtei's revenue is beginning to stabilize more than Tsushima's did at this stage, but the influx of new PS5s driven by GTA may soften that trend. Yōtei has proven to be an evergreen seller in a crowded market, shifting 1.8 million copies this year ($121 million in revenue) despite having just two small discounts and competing with what is one of the busiest and highest-quality release calendars ... ever.Game details and critical reception
Ghost of Yōtei was released in October 2025 and is a PlayStation 5 exclusive. IGN France awarded it a score of 9/10, stating: "The tale of the Onryō will remain etched in memory. Ghost of Yōtei follows the formula of its predecessor to the letter, for better or worse. As effective as ever, though similar, this new installment tells the story of Atsu and his pack, a compelling and surprising narrative carried by a refined gameplay, impeccable technique, and extraordinary artistic production."Additional features and media presence
The game recently added a new set of armor inspired by the PlayStation game The Last of Us. Erwan Lafleuriel is the editor-in-chief of IGN France. He can be seen live on IGN France's Twitch channel for various let's plays, and as a contributor to the manga/anime show Le Cri du Mochi, in partnership with Caroline Segarra.
