Euronext names new CEO candidate

Euronext announced on November 2, 2026, that David Knibbe, currently CEO of Dutch insurer NN Group, will be nominated to become its next chief executive officer, expected to take office in May 2027. The nomination must be approved by shareholders at a general meeting on May 20, 2027, and requires regulatory approvals, including from the Dutch minister of Finance.

Knibbe’s background and transition at NN Group

David Knibbe has led NN Group since 2019 and previously held multiple executive positions at NN and ING. His career has focused on managing regulated financial operations and overseeing technological transformation. NN Group confirmed that Knibbe will leave the company on March 1, 2027, and leadership will transition to Tjeerd Bosklopper, who currently oversees the company’s Dutch insurance, banking, and technology divisions.

Euronext’s expansion across Europe

Euronext is in the process of integrating multiple financial centers across Europe, operating regulated markets in France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Norway, and Greece. In 2025, the company strengthened its presence in Greece by acquiring a majority stake in the Athens Stock Exchange.

Strategic context for the leadership change

The supervisory board of Euronext has positioned the leadership change as part of its ongoing growth strategy and the integration of European capital markets. Stéphane Boujnah, who has led Euronext since 2015, has been instrumental in driving acquisitions and promoting deeper integration of financial markets across the continent.

Next steps for the appointment

The announcement on November 2 marks a key governance step, as the supervisory board has selected its candidate. However, the final approval of David Knibbe’s appointment will depend on shareholder votes at the general meeting in May 2027, as well as regulatory approvals from relevant authorities and the Dutch minister of Finance.
