Turkish Airlines, the national carrier of Turkey, has placed a major order for 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This includes 100 firm orders and 50 options, with deliveries expected between 2033 and 2037. The airline currently operates flights to over 320 destinations across six continents, using Istanbul as its main hub. The order was announced in September 2025, alongside a purchase of 50 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and options for 25 more aircraft. This decision followed a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House. The announcement comes ahead of a planned meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington, D.C. Boeing aircraft sales are often a topic in U.S. diplomatic discussions, particularly with major trading partners. In a previous meeting in May, talks between the U.S. and China had led to a preliminary agreement for Chinese airlines to purchase 200 Boeing aircraft. However, the actualization of this deal remains uncertain. Boeing’s chief executive, Kelly Ortberg, recently expressed cautious optimism about U.S.-China commercial relations. During a meeting with investors, he said he did not expect a dramatic agreement with Beijing but rather a gradual increase in orders. For Boeing, the finalized contract with Turkish Airlines represents a more concrete and immediate boost. The deal also strengthens Boeing’s position in the fleet of an airline with ambitious growth plans. Turkish Airlines aims to leverage its strategic location in Istanbul to expand its international presence. The airline’s continued investment in new aircraft, including the latest Boeing models, reflects its long-term strategy to grow its network and serve more destinations globally. The new order with Boeing is expected to support this expansion over the next decade.
