A 50-year-old man of Kosovar nationality has been formally investigated for murder and was arrested on Tuesday, September 29, following the stabbing of a 19-year-old man in Saint-Chamond, a town in the Loire department of France. The incident occurred during the night of Sunday to Monday in the Izieux neighborhood. According to AFP, the news agency, the information was obtained from the man’s lawyer. The Saint-Chamond mayor, Axel Dugua, described the area as typically quiet, according to the local news outlet Ici Saint-Étienne Loire. He stated that the incident was the result of a fight and not connected to drug trafficking. The Saint-Étienne prosecutor's office has launched a judicial investigation into the case but declined to comment when contacted. The 50-year-old suspect, described by his lawyer as a married man and father of three children, has no criminal record in France. However, he is not the only person accused in the case. One of his sons, in his twenties, is currently on the run. According to the lawyer, the suspect joined his son downstairs at their home during the night of Sunday to Monday during an altercation with four other young people, including the victim. The lawyer, Andre Buffard, explained that the dispute among the youths began over a trivial matter—specifically, the sale of a stock of puffs, a type of flavored tobacco product often sold in small quantities. The situation escalated into a violent confrontation, resulting in the victim's death. Buffard emphasized that the circumstances remain unclear, and it is uncertain what role each individual played in the incident. He added that his client denies having used a knife or delivered any blows. The investigation continues to determine the full sequence of events and the legal responsibilities of those involved.
