During a period of student protests in Lyon, Grégory Doucet, the mayor of Lyon, met with around twenty high school students and university students on Tuesday morning. Doucet was joined by several of his deputies during the meeting. The young people, who came from various schools in the city, discussed the teaching conditions they and their classmates face. According to Doucet's team, the discussion focused on issues experienced in Lyon and other areas. This meeting took place as the student movement continued for several days in the region. On Tuesday morning, 17 educational institutions were affected, with most of them being universities. Eight people were also arrested, some for vandalism or for transporting incendiary materials or fireworks. A demonstration began shortly after 10:30 am from Place Bellecour. After his meeting with the high school students, Grégory Doucet praised their mobilization. "I am marked by the solidarity of these young people. They want to be able to study in dignified conditions, have a desire for learning, as well as recognition," said Doucet. The elected ecologist believes this is a sign of "real vitality, refreshing," adding that it is "a message that we must carry."
