A one-year-old child suffered puncture wounds and minor grazes to his face after a dog lunged at him while he was sitting in a pushchair in Southampton, Hampshire. The incident happened in Shirley Precinct around 3:20 pm on August 21. The dog, described as a German Shepherd, was wearing a soft mesh-style muzzle at the time, which is typically used to prevent biting while allowing the dog to pant and vocalize. The child was taken to the hospital as a precaution, though no serious injuries were reported. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary is currently trying to identify who was responsible for the dog during the incident. As part of their investigation, the police have released a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak to. The woman is described as white, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, and of large build. Authorities are urging anyone who recognizes the woman or witnessed the incident to come forward. A police spokesperson emphasized the importance of public assistance in identifying the dog's owner and ensuring the safety of the community. The incident has raised concerns about dog control and the effectiveness of muzzles in preventing such attacks, even though they are designed to reduce the risk of harm.
