Haute-Savoie labor market improves slightly

The Haute-Savoie region in France has shown a modest improvement in its labor market, with a 0.2% increase in the number of job seekers during the third quarter of 2026. This is much lower than the national increase of 0.8% for the same period. The region had an average of 65,560 job seekers during the quarter, with only a small rise of 140 people.

Stable numbers for inactive job seekers

Among the job seekers in Haute-Savoie, 37,140 are classified as inactive, a group that has remained nearly unchanged. This category includes people who are not currently working or looking for work. The region’s overall growth in job seekers is slower than both the national and regional averages.

Youth job seekers see larger increase

Young people under the age of 25 are the most affected by the rise in job seekers, with their numbers increasing by 5.0% compared to a 1.5% rise for those over 50. This disparity may be influenced by a new law that automatically registers certain individuals, including RSA beneficiaries and young people followed by local employment agencies, since January 2025.

National trends adjusted for registration changes

When accounting for the impact of the new registration rules, the national increase in category A job seekers drops to 0.3% for the quarter and 0.9% over a year. In Haute-Savoie, a new category F, known as the "social journey," includes 4,377 people, which is double the number from a year ago. This category is designed for individuals in specific social or employment transition situations.
