The Museum of Art Pudong hosts a groundbreaking exhibition by 19M, showcasing collaborations between Chinese and French artisans, including works by Yin Xiuzhen and Ding Yi.
MAP hosts new 19M exhibition
The Museum of Art Pudong (MAP), located on the banks of the Huangpu River in Shanghai and facing the Oriental Pearl Tower, has established a new exhibition space for 19M, a heritage and creation site founded in 2021 by the Chanel group. The exhibition occupies the entire third floor of MAP and includes two complementary routes: a tribute to Lesage, a fashion exhibition on the history of the royal house of embroidery and tweed, and a collective display featuring collaborations between Chinese and French artisans and artists.19M's global presence
19M, which previously worked on projects in Dakar with the Institut fondamental d'Afrique noire (Ifan) and the Théodore Monod African Art Museum, as well as in Marseille at the Mucem and in Tokyo at the Mori Tower, has chosen Shanghai as its new base. The exhibition includes works such as the magnificent creature of Yin Xiuzhen, created with Lesage, and the work of Ding Yi, whose abstract canvases have been reinterpreted through a large embroidery painting by Atelier Montex.Collaborative art pieces
Shen Yuan has also created a piece titled Light Steps with the Lesage and Massaro workshops, using glass plates and silk lotus leaves. Deborah Fischer, one of the French artists sent on residence by 19M with Chinese artisans, has designed an installation using ceramic shards embedded in glass sculptures and topped with embroidery by the Tianli Xiang workshop.Artistic fusion in Shanghai
Sculptor Mathilde Albouy has created a double bird cage at human scale using wood and lacquer with the artisans Guo Hang and Tang Wei. Bruno Pavlovsky, president of 19M, stated that in Shanghai, they enter a new dimension that shows the intangible aspect of artistic crafts, a formidable source of inspiration for creation.Future exhibition plans
The exhibition will be moved back to Paris in March and will be repeated at the 19M gallery from September 25, 2026 to November 15, 2026, with a planned repeat in spring 2027.
