Samsung's DeX feature, which allows Galaxy smartphone users to transform their devices into a desktop-like environment, is now available on the Galaxy Z Fold 8's inner screen through a third-party app called Gadesk. This app, available on the Google Play Store, enables the DeX experience without requiring users to root their devices or use sideloading methods, which are typically more complex and riskier. The setup process involves a few steps, including disabling the Auto Blocker feature in the device's Security and privacy settings and enabling Wireless debugging through Developer options. This requires users to tap the Build number seven times in the About phone section under Software information to unlock Developer options. Once Wireless debugging is enabled, users open the Gadesk app and select "Connect driver," followed by "First-time pairing." They are then prompted to enter a pairing code shown on the screen, which establishes a connection. After pairing, a menu item called "DeXprobe" should appear in the Wireless debugging section, confirming the successful setup. Users then need to allow the driver and grant accessibility permissions to the Gadesk app through the Accessibility settings. Once configured, the DeX desktop mode can be initiated directly through the Gadesk app. The Gadesk app works by tricking the Galaxy Z Fold 8 into thinking it is connected to an external monitor. It intercepts the desktop output and overlays it onto the inner screen using the accessibility permissions granted earlier. The app offers several customization options, such as adjusting the orientation of the desktop, enabling a virtual trackpad, and setting up custom gesture actions for easier navigation. These features allow users to tailor the DeX experience to their preferences. The free version of Gadesk includes limitations, such as a 15-minute time limit per DeX session and the presence of advertisements. Users can upgrade to a premium version for a one-time fee of $20, which removes these restrictions. Additionally, users can extend their DeX sessions by 10 minutes through promotional engagement. While Gadesk is specifically designed for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, it also supports other DeX-capable Galaxy devices running One UI 8 or later, as well as Google Pixel devices that have built-in desktop Android mode.
