The Chaland Meetings, taking place in Nérac, Lot-et-Garonne, from October 1 to 4, 2026, unite the worlds of comics and cinema. Held in multiple venues such as the Yves Chaland Media Library, the Tanneries Gallery, the Hotel Henri IV, the Sèderie Gallery, the Au Plafond bookstore, and the Le Margot cinema, the event includes exhibitions, panel discussions, workshops, and film screenings. A central figure at the festival is Hervé Bourhis, a prominent name in the comics world. Born in 1974, Bourhis received the René-Goscinny Award for screenwriting in 2002 for his first album, Thomas or the Return of the Taboo, and later the Jacques-Lob Prize in 2010. His work spans graphic novels, chronicles, satire, noir, autobiography, documentary works, and collaborations with various artists. His graphic novel Le Teckel won the Landerneau BD Prize in 2014 and was adapted into a film released in January 2027. Bourhis is also known for his passion for music, reflected in works like The Little Rock Book, The Little Beatles Book, and Paul - The Resurrection of James Paul McCartney (1969-1973), followed by Ringo in 2026. The festival features a retrospective of Bourhis’s work at the Galerie des Tanneries, showcasing more than 150 original pieces, while the Yves Chaland Media Library hosts an exhibition focused on his works related to rock and the Beatles. Other exhibitions include those by Laurent Durieux, who presents Mirages at the Hotel Henri IV and À l’affiche Yves Chaland at the Sèderie Gallery, which includes original works and an interactive component. Awards will be given to Whisky by David Ratte on a script by Bruno Duhamel, and Mi-Mouche T.1: Do You Want to Fight? by Carole Maurel and Véro Cazot. On Saturday, October 3, the meeting Tell Me About Cinema! hosted by Jean-Christophe Ogier will feature Hervé Bourhis alongside Christian Cailleaux, Mathieu Sapin, Hervé Tanquerelle, and Guy Delisle. Nicolas Dumontheuil and Kent will also discuss the connections between graphic expression and cinema. The following day, Hervé Bourhis will comment on the exhibition Paul & Ringo, and a round table celebrating the 100th anniversary of Goscinny will be held at 3 p.m., hosted by Didier Pasamonik. The event will bring together about thirty authors and participants, including François Ayroles, Anne Baraou, Dominique Bertail, Guy Delisle, Dorothée de Monfreid, Christian Durieux, Antonio Lapone, David Prudhomme, Mathieu Sapin, Hervé Tanquerelle, and Lucas Varela. The Le Margot cinema will screen a selection of films, including Akira by Katsuhiro Ôtomo, a premiere of Le Corset by Louis Clichy, as well as Ma famille de Samouraïs by Célia Catunda and Jim Queen by Marco Nguyen and Nicolas Athane. The festival includes educational activities such as a youth day, school meetings, flipbook and zootrope workshops, guided visits, and workshops allowing children to transform a comic book panel into a film set. Events will continue until November 15, 2026, with additional meetings around Adrien Demont and animations in several places in Lot-et-Garonne. The Chaland Meetings, of which ActuaBD has been a partner for 19 years, remain one of the preferred spots for comics in the autumn.
