Film wins top honor at Dinard festival

The film I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, directed by Clio Barnard, was elected best film at the British and Irish Film Festival of Dinard, which ran from 7-11 October. The festival, now in its 37th edition, has faced various changes in the British and French film industries, including the impact of Brexit.

Festival honors film at awards ceremony

The awards ceremony was held at the Palais des Arts et du Festival, where the film won the main prize, the Golden Hitchcock for Best Film. The jury included notable figures such as Amira Casar, Thibault de Montalembert, Ben Hardy, Zoé Adjani, and Stephen Woolley.

Festival director steps down after seven years

Festival director Dominique Green will be stepping down after seven years, and an independent review commissioned by the local mayor’s office will assess the festival's future, with results expected in early 2027. The festival's line-up and prizes continue to highlight its unique curatorial strategy, focusing on new British and Irish films and talent.

Other films win awards at Dinard

The Education of Jane Cumming, directed by Sophie Heldman, won Best Performance Awards for its leads, Flora Nicholson and Claire Dunne. The German-Swiss-UK co-production was well received after its premiere at the Berlinale Panorama but was not included in the BFI London Film Festival.

Multiple awards given at the festival

The Edinburgh main-competition winner Skintown, directed by Kieron J Walsh, continued its run of awards with an Audience Award at Dinard. Other awards included the Special Barrière Prize for Rose of Nevada by Mark Jenkin, the Hitchcock Audience Award for Best Short for Punt by Nicky Larkin, and the Ouest-France “Talent of Tomorrow” Prize for Lady by Olive Nwosu.
