At SIAL Paris, a major food and beverage trade fair, the role of companies in promoting social responsibility is becoming increasingly significant. This year, the SIAL For Change initiative has taken a new step forward with a redesigned space in Hall 6, a new partnership with a European organization called The Foodies, and a conference schedule focused on the challenges and opportunities of transitioning to more sustainable practices. This evolution highlights a growing trend: corporate social responsibility is becoming just as important as product innovation and international expansion in the food industry. Several key events will take place during the week on the SIAL For Change stage. On October 19, a conference titled “Corporate social responsibility and model transformation” will explore how companies can turn social responsibility into a competitive advantage by making it structural, measurable, and beneficial to consumers, particularly in large retail. On October 20, another conference will examine what a sales point truly aligned with future CSR challenges might look like, and what product innovations or formats could transform consumption models. Also on October 20, a major event will focus on how major meat and dairy companies are responding to sustainability challenges, including shifting toward plant-based proteins and other alternatives. Meanwhile, the SIAL Talks stage will host a discussion on “Ultra-transformation,” exploring its definitions, risks, and practical steps to improve product transformation. The SIAL For Change competition, designed to recognize companies that treat sustainability as a strategic priority, evaluates exhibitors based on six criteria: internal CSR management, responsible purchasing, product innovation for sustainability, addressing sector-specific issues, societal responsibility (including health, waste, and local solidarity), environmental impact, and social aspects like inclusion and working conditions. A new addition for 2026 is a partnership with The Foodies, a European initiative that supports small and medium-sized enterprises and startups in the food and drink sector. This partnership expands the competition to include non-exhibiting European companies, assessed on their originality, impact, and economic viability in line with seven European food sustainability goals. The official prize ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 18, at 12:00, on the SIAL Talks stage (Hall 5A), showcasing the initiatives that stand out in the competition. The SIAL For Change space, located on the mezzanine of Hall 6, is designed to be a hub for inspiration, networking, and knowledge-sharing. The program includes presentations of the competition winners, expert-led conferences, and information about career opportunities through SIAL Jobs. A dedicated route will allow visitors to easily identify companies that contribute to more sustainable and responsible food practices throughout the five days of the fair. The inclusion of SIAL Jobs in the SIAL For Change space reflects the belief that the sustainable transformation of the food industry also requires new jobs and skills. SIAL Paris is working with educational institutions and the Ecotrophelia competition to connect companies with talent and promote the appeal of future careers in the food sector. This effort is part of the “All Involved” strategy by the Comexposium group, which includes commitments to the circular economy, reducing carbon impact, raising awareness among exhibitors and visitors, and supporting employment and future skills. Some of the actions already implemented include using recycled carpets, reusing signage, avoiding promotional giveaways, and partnering with the French Red Cross to redistribute surplus food. By expanding its competition to a European level and creating a dedicated space at the center of the fair, SIAL For Change aims to go beyond just recognizing achievements. It seeks to showcase the food industry's ongoing transformation, highlighting the convergence of innovation and responsibility. Visitors can attend the event from October 17 to 21, 2026, at the Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Park, to witness this evolving landscape in real time.
