High parking fee surprises Toulouse resident

Émilie, a resident of Toulouse, parked her car at the Toulouse-Matabiau train station parking on a Monday morning for a business trip to Paris, expecting to return the next day and pay a reasonable fee. However, she was surprised by a bill for 192 € upon exiting the parking the following evening.

Unaware of high-rate area

She had parked near the platforms, unaware of the specific area's higher pricing. The ticket she received from a car rental employee allowed her to exit the rental car area, but the automatic license plate recognition system continued to charge her at a rate of 1 € every ten minutes. This resulted in a total of 192 € for approximately thirty hours of parking.

Invisible warning sign criticized

Émilie described the warning sign about the 1 € every ten minutes as nearly invisible. She was advised by a car rental employee to use the ticket to exit the rental area without passing through the payment system. However, the system continued to charge her based on the time spent in the rental area.

Parking company defends charges

Effia, the parking management company, stated that the signage was clear and visible, and that Émilie had not contacted them for clarification. According to Effia, Émilie had entered the rental area at 9:59 AM on June 15 and exited through the main exit at 5:50 PM on June 16, resulting in a charge of 192 €. Effia noted that only two complaints had been made about this issue in the past three years and that most customers were aware of the signage. They mentioned they were considering a gesture of goodwill regarding part of the payment.

Standard fees much lower

The standard parking fee at Toulouse-Matabiau station for a day is typically between 15 and 25 €, with the first hour ranging from 2 to 4 €. Effia also offers a night parking pass for 5 €. Émilie is currently seeking a partial refund for the unexpected charge.
