Yannick Cahuzac, a former defensive midfielder, has moved into his first role as a head coach, taking charge of the Racing Club de Lens after replacing Dino Toppmöller. Cahuzac began thinking about his life after football around the age of 33, during his time playing for Toulouse. He sought guidance from experienced coaches such as Franck Haise, Régis Le Bris, and Olivier Pantaloni, who helped shape his transition from player to coach. Cahuzac was appointed head coach on September 15, and just three days later, he led his team in their first match against Monaco, which ended in a 2-1 defeat. Cahuzac is currently working toward his BEPF (Brevet d'Études Professionnelles Football), a professional football coaching qualification in France. To support his studies, the club pays 25,000 euros for every Ligue 1 match he coaches. During the international break, Cahuzac had nearly three weeks to develop his coaching philosophy, even though many players left for national team duties. His goal is to build a strong team identity and focus on internal principles before adjusting strategies to face opponents. Cahuzac is known for his tactical knowledge, attention to detail, and passion for analyzing the game. His former teammate Jonathan Gradit noted that Cahuzac had an interest in tactics even as a player, and that he learned a lot from working with various coaches. Olivier Pantaloni, who worked with Cahuzac as an assistant, pointed out that Cahuzac’s playing career didn’t highlight strong athletic abilities, but his game intelligence and positioning are clearly evident in his coaching role. Jean-Louis Leca, now the sports director at Racing Club de Lens, expressed confidence in Cahuzac’s vision and his understanding of the club’s values. Cahuzac’s daily routine includes arriving at the Gaillette training facility around 8 a.m. and leaving between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. The challenges he faces include managing the demands of Ligue 1 and the Champions League while continuing his BEPF training.
