Sevillanas festival marks 12th anniversary

The Sevillanas festival in Nîmes is celebrating its twelfth anniversary with an expanded lineup of events and a stronger focus on acoustic performances. The festival, organized by the O Flamenco association, which is approaching its sixteenth year, runs from November 26 to December 5.

Traditional dance central to festival

The festival highlights the Sevillanas, a traditional dance that uses gestures and eye contact, often for flirting. It includes dance competitions, live performances, and workshops, offering a range of activities for attendees of all ages and skill levels.

Acoustic performances emphasized

The festival's organizer, Roé, emphasizes the importance of acoustic music, especially at the Paloma venue, where performances will be held without pre-recorded accompaniments. This approach contrasts with some groups that use pre-recorded tracks, which Roé considers less authentic.

Expanded dance competition

The dance competition on November 27 at the Milonga del Angel has expanded from two to four categories, including children, teenagers, beginner adults, and experienced adults. This change aims to make the event more inclusive and accessible to a broader audience.

Los del Guadalquivir performs acoustically

Los del Guadalquivir, a historical and innovative group known for symphonic experiments, will perform acoustically this year with two dry guitars and four musicians. This performance represents a return to traditional methods of musical expression.

Flamenco fashion show and other events

Carmencika, a former competition winner and shop creator, will host a flamenco fashion show as part of the festival. Other events include a tortilla competition with a first prize of 100 euros and an Andalusian meal.

Workshops and performances

Workshops will be available for guitar and Sevillana singing, open to all levels. Practical information includes free entry for the opening event on November 26 at Pablo Romero's, with a dance party animated by DJ Solène.

The dance and competition on November 27 at the Milonga del Angel costs 10 €, and Los del Guadalquivir's evening on November 28 at Paloma has ticket prices ranging from 19 € to 22 €.
