Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has moved on a season-long loan to Italian club Como, following the arrival of Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. Martinez, who signed for £7.5 million, has taken over as the first-choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge, leading to Sanchez being dropped from the matchday squad for Sunday's 4-3 victory over Brighton. Sanchez had been the club's primary goalkeeper since joining from Brighton in 2023, making 112 appearances and helping the team win the Conference League and the Club World Cup. Sanchez's loan to Como comes after a shaky start to the Premier League season. He played in Chelsea's 3-2 win against Fulham in their opening game but made a costly error, allowing a goal from Josh King to slip through his hands. This mistake, along with concerns over his overall performance, prompted the club to bring in Martinez, who made his debut for Chelsea just hours after his transfer was announced. Como, managed by former Chelsea and Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas, have the option to buy Sanchez at the end of the loan period. The Italian club has also signed Mike Penders, a £17 million acquisition from Genk, who made his debut in a Carabao Cup win over Luton Town and was on the bench in the match against Brighton. Additionally, Como has signed Moise Kean on loan from Fiorentina, with an obligation to buy. The 26-year-old Italian international, who previously played for Everton and Juventus, scored eight goals in 26 Serie A games for Fiorentina last season. Como finished fourth in the Italian league last season and will compete in the group stage of the Champions League this term. The club's new signings are expected to strengthen their squad as they aim to build on their recent success and challenge for European qualification.
