The mayor of Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon, Bruno Jacolin, is currently under protective measures after receiving threats, according to recent reports. The situation has escalated following a series of incidents, including defamatory graffiti, mortar fire, and slashed tires, which have been observed in the area. These threats reportedly began after Jacolin chaired a meeting on neighborhood security in May, drawing attention to local safety concerns. The main suspect in the case has a history of legal issues and has been arrested multiple times. The first arrest occurred on June 6, and the individual is currently subject to a legal procedure that includes a notice of a penal composition, which is a formal warning or penalty issued by authorities. The suspect was arrested again on July 10 for possession and use of narcotics, further complicating the legal proceedings. A plea hearing is scheduled for October 14, where the suspect will likely face charges related to the narcotics case. As part of the legal process under the narcotics trafficking law, the social housing unit where the suspect resides has been seized by state services to begin a procedure for terminating the lease. This move aims to remove the individual from the area and prevent further incidents. In response to the threats against the mayor, the Rhône prefecture expressed strong support for Jacolin on September 22. The authorities stated that the threats are unacceptable and have mobilized state services, including the national police, to ensure the mayor's safety and to arrest those responsible. This shows the seriousness with which local and national authorities are treating the situation, aiming to protect public officials and maintain community safety.
