Nickel, a French bank with five million accounts, has announced an ambitious goal to become the "financial partner of the reference daily" by 2030, according to a strategic plan released this week. Founded in 2014, Nickel is known for its unique accessibility, offering banking services through tobacco shops across France. The bank aims to expand its range of services in areas like savings, credit, and insurance, while staying true to its core values of simplicity, proximity, and universality.
Thomas Courtois, president of Nickel, emphasized the bank's commitment to providing increasingly useful, accessible, and innovative financial services. By 2030, Nickel hopes to have four million active customers—those who pay fees—for its services across Europe. To achieve this, the bank has introduced a new offering called "Nickel Pro," specifically designed for individual entrepreneurs. Priced at 50 euros per year, the service includes check deposits, cash management through partner tobacco shops, and access to expert advisors for dedicated customer support.
Nickel also plans to significantly expand its network of sales points, aiming to reach 20,000 locations across Europe by 2030, with half of these outside of France. Currently, the bank operates in 13,000 locations. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance its financial services, including faster development of savings, credit, insurance, and international transfer solutions.
In recent years, Nickel has begun entering new markets, forming partnerships with major financial institutions. These include home insurance collaborations with BNP Paribas Cardif and Lemonade, as well as savings solutions with BNP Paribas Personal Finance. The bank also plans to launch car insurance services by the end of the year, further diversifying its range of offerings to meet the needs of a growing customer base.
