Wrexham defender Max Cleworth has been ruled out for eight weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained during the first half of Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at home to Burnley. Manager Phil Parkinson explained that Cleworth "overstretched the ball in a bit of a tangle and just overstretched his hamstring." Initially, the injury appeared less severe, but further evaluation revealed it to be more serious, leading to an eight-week absence. Cleworth had been starting the last three matches for the Red Dragons, and his absence will require Parkinson to reorganize the defense. Wrexham’s upcoming schedule includes a trip to West Ham United on Friday, 11 September, followed by a home match against Southampton on Saturday, 19 September, before the international break. The club will play five games in October, and Parkinson remains confident that the squad has enough depth to cope with Cleworth’s absence. He praised Cleworth for "taking his opportunity" and noted that other players, including Zak Vyner, Aaron James, Dom Hyam, and Joe Worrell, are capable of filling in at the back. Parkinson expressed disappointment over the injury, stating, "We're frustrated for Max because he'd come back into the team and did really well, but that's what we've got a squad for." He also confirmed that midfielder Josh Windass, who suffered a calf injury in the Burnley match, is not seriously injured and will be available for the West Ham game. Parkinson described the injury as "only a whack" and emphasized that Windass, who did not play in pre-season, needs to be managed carefully due to his importance to the team. The team is also boosted by the return of midfielder Ben Sheaf, who has not yet featured this season. Sheaf had been sidelined with a calf injury but is now part of the traveling squad for the upcoming match against West Ham United. His inclusion adds depth to the midfield and provides further options for Parkinson as the club continues its push for promotion.
