OpenAI reversed its plan to cut ChatGPT Pro limits, doubling usage caps for Pro and Business Premium plans and introducing a faster 500-dollar tier.
OpenAI reverses rate limit changes
OpenAI has reversed its earlier decision to reduce usage limits for ChatGPT Pro, instead doubling the limits for all Pro plans priced at 100, 200, and 500 dollars, as well as for the Business Premium plan. The change was made after feedback from subscribers, as reported by Bleepingcomputer.Tibo announces the update on X
The reversal was announced on X by Tibo, who is the public face of ChatGPT and Codex on the platform. Tibo stated that all Pro levels—100, 200, and 500 dollars, as well as Business Premium—would have their usage limits doubled immediately, and that the 200 Pro plan's limits would not be reduced.Changes affect ChatGPT Work and Codex
The changes mainly affect ChatGPT Work and Codex, which share the same usage quotas. The original plan had been to reduce the included usage for Work and Codex under the 200 Pro plan starting on October 30, which would have cut their allocation significantly.Existing subscribers retain limits
Existing subscribers were to retain their usage limits until October 29 and would receive a single credit of 2,500 dollars worth of usage, which would expire by the end of the year. OpenAI had also promised not to reintroduce a five-hour limit on this plan.Dots retain extended limits
Dots, OpenAI's always-on assistants, retain their extended limits, although the company has not provided numerical figures for these tiers for now. The usage of a dot is counted separately from the default usage, preventing background agents from consuming the ChatGPT Work and Codex budget.New Pro 500 plan launched
OpenAI has also launched a new Pro 500 plan priced at 500 dollars per month, which is the only Pro plan offering Ultrafast mode—up to 300 tokens per second in Codex, which is up to eight times faster than the standard mode. Upgrades to the Pro 200 plan had been temporarily suspended since September 10 but have since reopened to new subscribers.
