British Airways is making changes to the London airports from which four of its major routes operate, beginning in October. Starting October 25, flights to Costa Rica (San Jose) will depart from London Heathrow instead of London Gatwick. Flights to Tampa will switch to Heathrow in October, and flights to Fuerteventura will move to Heathrow from December 13. Additionally, flights to Innsbruck, Austria, will shift from Heathrow to Gatwick starting December 7. These changes are part of the airline’s ongoing efforts to optimize its flight operations and improve customer experience. Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands, is a popular destination for UK travelers. Official data shows that over 576,000 British tourists visited the Canary Islands in July alone, making up nearly 37% of all visitors to the islands that month. This highlights the significance of the route change for British travelers planning trips to Fuerteventura. In addition to these route adjustments, British Airways is launching several new routes this autumn and winter. These include a seasonal flight to Finland for the festive season, direct flights from London Gatwick to Sri Lanka starting in October, and new flights to Barbados from Gatwick, alongside existing flights from Heathrow. The airline will also relaunch flights from Heathrow to Cologne, Germany, in November, and introduce new services to Graz, Austria, and Rabat, Morocco, in the same month. Twice-weekly flights to Rovaniemi, Finland, will begin in December, and flights to Melbourne, Australia, are set to start in January 2027. British Airways has informed passengers of these changes and is offering rebooking options or full refunds for affected customers. The changes to Tampa and Costa Rica were announced in March, and those to Fuerteventura and Innsbruck were communicated in July, giving travelers more than five months’ notice. Round-trip prices for the affected routes include Economy Standard from Heathrow to San Jose starting from £934.49 for a trip from October 14 to 21, Economy Standard to Tampa from £648 for the same period, and Economy Plus to Fuerteventura from £270.95 for a trip from December 17 to 24. Economy Plus to Innsbruck from Gatwick starts from £275.10 for a trip from December 22 to 29.
