The Sud Corse intercommunal authority convened on September 30 in Porto-Vecchio to approve a new territory plan for the years 2026-2030, with a total investment of 40 million euros. The plan outlines key priorities such as economic development, infrastructure improvements, waste management, and the conservation of natural resources. Jean-Christophe Angelini, president of the intercommunal authority, highlighted the importance of distributing the benefits of tourism more evenly and building an economy that is less reliant on seasonal fluctuations.
A significant project in the plan is the construction of an aquatic center in Porto-Vecchio, which is estimated to cost 14 million euros. The project has been in development for approximately fifteen years and has encountered multiple delays. Angelini confirmed that the construction is still ongoing and now envisions the center being built near the Claude-Papi sports complex. He stated that the aquatic center is expected to be completed by the end of his term.
Other priorities include relocating the Porto-Vecchio slaughterhouse and developing the Figari business zone to diversify the local economy and create more job opportunities. Angelini noted that the proximity of the airport should be an asset to the commune, emphasizing that Figari should not suffer the drawbacks of an airport without receiving any benefits in return.
The Suttanacciu community is working to better manage its land, which has become a significant issue for businesses, agriculture, and residents. Angelini stressed that the goal is not to hinder growth but to ensure that economic expansion and social cohesion are more sustainable. He mentioned the need to regulate or adjust the growth trajectory to make it more manageable on an annual basis, allowing the entire territory to benefit and helping to mitigate the negative effects of rapid development.
Waste management is another key focus, involving the construction of an intercommunal technical center and the installation of new underground or semi-underground voluntary waste drop-off points. The program also includes initiatives aimed at promoting soft mobility and improving transportation systems.
Water management remains a pressing concern, especially after the tensions of last autumn. Angelini mentioned the possibility of constructing a hillside reservoir or a dam to address the issue. Jean Giuseppi, the mayor of Figari, emphasized the urgency of securing water supplies, stating that without a reliable water source, tourism could come to a standstill.
