Gaston partners with Forget for Brest Challenger

French tennis player Hugo Gaston has announced that Guy Forget will join him as a coach for the Brest Challenger, which runs from October 26 to November 1. The 26-year-old Gaston is seeking guidance from Forget, a former top-ranked player and experienced team captain.

Forget’s background in tennis

Guy Forget, now 61, has not previously served as a personal coach on the professional circuit. However, he has extensive experience as captain of the French national team, leading them to Davis Cup and Fed Cup victories in 2001 and 2003, respectively.

Collaboration facilitated by mental trainer

The partnership between Gaston and Forget was facilitated by Isabelle Inschauspé, who has been Gaston's mental trainer since 2020. This comes after Gaston parted ways with his previous coach, Tristan Lamasine, following the US Open.

Forget’s cautious approach

Forget has emphasized that he does not want to be immediately seen as Gaston’s full-time coach. Instead, he plans to observe Gaston during training and matches before making any changes to his playing style or strategy.

Forget’s previous comments on return

This partnership was not entirely unexpected, as Forget had previously hinted at a possible return to the tennis circuit in a coaching or consulting role during an interview with Tennis Actu in December 2025. At that time, he left the door open for such a role.

Gaston’s current form and goals

Gaston, currently ranked 93rd in the world, is aiming to regain consistency after a recent loss to Jacob Fearnley in Brussels. He hopes to rebuild his confidence at the Brest Challenger, where he previously won the title in 2025 by defeating Eliot Spizzirri in the final.
