Rescue in Équihen-Plage

Five people, including a pregnant woman and a two-year-old boy, were rescued from hypothermia at the Équihen-Plage station in the Pas-de-Calais department. They were taken by firefighters to the hospital after being exposed to dangerously cold water.

Migrant crossings in taxi boats

For several days, migrants have been attempting to cross the English Channel in small, unofficial boats known as taxi boats. These crossings have been happening frequently between Berck and Hardelot, increasing the risk of serious accidents and fatalities.

Details of the rescue

According to La Voix du Nord, the five survivors were on a taxi boat that carried between 80 and 100 people. The boat likely capsized or was in distress, prompting the rescue operation.

Ongoing rescue efforts

Other rescue operations are continuing on Sunday, particularly in Saint-Etienne-au-Mont and Hardelot. These areas have seen similar incidents, highlighting the ongoing nature of the crisis.

Rescue teams remain active

The Abeille Normandie, a specialized tugboat used for intervention, assistance, and rescue, and the National Maritime Rescue Society (SNSM) are still working to save those in danger. Their efforts continue as more people attempt the perilous crossing.
