From 28 September to 4 October, Lyon and its surrounding areas experienced several notable events. A significant student mobilization began on Monday, 28 September, with several high schools in Lyon targeted by attempts to block access. The movement intensified the following day, with the prefecture reporting that 20 schools in the Rhône department were blocked. By Friday, 2 October, prosecutors in Lyon reported that 138 people had been detained and placed in custody since the start of the week. The students protesting cited issues such as lack of resources, overcrowded classes, poor building conditions, and difficulties with orientation. A new youth mobilization is planned for Tuesday, 6 October, with a gathering scheduled at 10 a.m. on Place Bellecour. The new majority in the metropolitan area adopted a framework decision on Monday, 28 September, making daily security one of its priorities for the 2026–2032 mandate. Among the measures announced were 30 million euros to support communes, a security plan for secondary schools, and the creation of a specialized unit for public transport. This shift in direction is being led by the president of the metropolitan area, Véronique Sarselli, who aims to make security one of the priorities of her mandate. The tramway express of the western Lyon area (TEOL) was officially abandoned on Wednesday, 30 September, by Sytral. The project, which was supported by the previous ecological majority, was intended to connect Alaï to Tassin-la-Demi-Lune and then to Lyon, passing through Confluence and Jean Macé. The cost of the project had been estimated at around 800 million euros, with a projected launch date of 2032. The new president of the metropolitan area, Véronique Sarselli, prefers the E metro project and plans to conduct "new studies" to determine the best solution for serving western Lyon. The traditional "Vogue des marrons" returned to Croix-Rousse over the weekend, with the event taking place on Saturday, 3 October. The event will run until 11 November, featuring rides, stalls, and activities along the Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse. As is customary, the event will lead to traffic adjustments and changes to the TCL network in the area. The week concluded with a sporting atmosphere as 36,000 runners participated in the Run in Lyon on Sunday, 4 October. The event featured four races: marathon, half-marathon, 10 km, and a solidarity run. The half-marathon set a record for participation with 17,000 registrations. The atmosphere was lively, with runners passing through several districts of the city, cheered on by the public.
