This week’s top stories include Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system showing off its ability to handle complex driving scenarios on a challenging mountain road, a refund campaign for users of the Navigo public transport pass affected by service disruptions, and a test of an entirely driverless electric truck delivering goods for Lidl in Germany. A Slovenian Tesla owner shared a video on September 14 showing a Tesla equipped with the FSD system navigating the Mangart pass, a narrow and treacherous mountain road in Europe. The vehicle was moving at about 30 km/h and performed a series of precise maneuvers, including reversing and moving forward on the shoulder of the road. It came very close to concrete posts at the edge of a cliff to let an oncoming vehicle pass. The video highlights the system’s ability to accurately estimate the car’s size and manage complex situations that many human drivers might avoid. A refund campaign for Navigo pass users begins on September 15, 2026, and is only available online. Those eligible are users who had subscribed to lines J or L during a period of service disruptions from late March to mid-July 2026. Proof of subscription during that time is required to claim compensation. The refund amounts are a flat €90.80 for line J (one month) and €45.40 for line L (half a month). Einride and Lidl have claimed to have conducted the first global tour of a fully autonomous electric truck on public roads in Germany. The vehicle operates under an experimental permit from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA), Germany’s federal motor vehicle agency, which is valid until February 2027. The demonstration involves a single level 4 autonomous truck, which is restricted to a reduced speed and a short route. A monitoring car follows the truck, and human operators are still needed for loading and unloading the vehicle.
