AS Monaco currently leads the Ligue 1 table with 13 points from five matches, two points ahead of Olympique Lyonnais and Paris FC, while Paris Saint-Germain sits in fifth place with five points. Filipe Luis, a 41-year-old Brazilian coach who joined the club this summer, has made it clear that chasing the Ligue 1 title is not a priority for his team. During an interview with RMC's L'After Foot, he said, "We are not thinking about it. It is not realistic. We know the reality of the club. I am ambitious, really, really ambitious. But we have to go match by match." Luis also recognized the strength of Paris Saint-Germain, stating, "We cannot compare with Paris. Paris has won the last two Champions Leagues. It is not just the best team in France over the last two seasons but the best team in the world." His comments highlight the significant gap in quality and experience between AS Monaco and its rivals. AS Monaco finished 7th in the 2025-2026 season but has already qualified for the Ligue Conference, a secondary European competition. The team's first match in the tournament will be on October 15 against CSKA Sofia, starting at 6:45 pm. Luis acknowledged the challenges of competing in Europe, saying, "We know the reality, it will be a very long season. Many things can happen. We take it match by match." Despite the difficulties, Luis remains focused on the process, adding, "At the end, we will see the real level of our team and we hope to be at the top of the table. We will continue to work to win matches." His approach emphasizes a step-by-step strategy, aiming to build the team's performance through each game.
