CD Projekt Red has announced a remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which will be available on consoles and PC starting September 29. This update comes before the release of The Witcher 4, expected in 2028. The remastered version includes improved graphics, updated gameplay mechanics, and modern features. Additionally, an expansion called Songs of the Past is set to release in 2027. The Songs of the Past expansion focuses on Jaskier, a bard who travels with the main character, Geralt of Rivia. This expansion shifts the narrative focus from Geralt to Jaskier, exploring his background and family. The story takes place in the region of Letten and includes enhanced graphics, better horse movement physics, improved camera controls, dynamic vegetation, and ray tracing for lighting. The original game’s popular locations, such as Kaer Morhen and Novigrad, are also being updated in the remastered version. CD Projekt Red stated that the return of The Witcher 3 is motivated by creative opportunities and advances in technology, rather than marketing efforts. The remastered version and the expansion are closely connected, with the expansion relying on the updated mechanics and visuals of the remastered game. New features include improved accessibility options, new weapons, a "Bard's Tale" mode, and a redesigned skill tree. The remastered version and the upcoming expansion are part of CD Projekt Red’s efforts to keep The Witcher 3 relevant and engaging for players. The company views the game’s return as a nostalgic experience for longtime fans, offering a mature and memorable story that will continue to resonate with players for years to come.
