Prefecture requests meeting with unions

The prefecture of Doubs has requested a meeting with the intersyndical organization to discuss the course and route of a planned demonstration. The request comes amid ongoing tensions over the organization and management of public protests in the region.

Unions refuse to meet

The intersyndical organization has refused to proceed with the proposed meeting. The unions argue that the prefecture's suggested route for the demonstration is overly restrictive and infringes on their rights.

Prefect suggests demonstration route

According to the intersyndical organization, the prefect of Doubs "recommended Battant as the starting and ending point of the mobilization." This suggestion has been met with resistance from the unions, who view it as an attempt to limit the scope of the demonstration.

Unions reject route restrictions

The unions have stated they do not want to accept this expanded demonstration area restriction for the second time across the entire Boucle du Doubs. They argue that such restrictions undermine the right to demonstrate freely in public spaces.

Unions will challenge restrictions

The intersyndical organization plans to file a reference for freedom before the Administrative Court. This legal action aims to challenge the restrictions imposed by the prefecture on the planned demonstration.

Transport and safety restrictions imposed

From Friday, October 30, at 8 p.m. to Sunday, November 1, at 8 p.m., throughout the department, the transportation of portable fuel containers and other flammable substances, pyrotechnic devices, and weapons by destination is prohibited. These measures aim to enhance public safety during the period of heightened activity.

Restrictions on protective equipment

In the towns of Besançon and Montbéliard, the wearing of personal protective equipment such as helmets, masks, and safety glasses is also prohibited "when it is not justified by a legitimate reason." This rule is intended to prevent the misuse of such equipment during demonstrations.
