Performance space and constraints
Myriam Gourfink’s Almasty is a sixty-minute solo performance created for Deborah Lary, which took place in Paris at the Petit Odéon from November 25 to December 10, 2026. The performance is confined to a four-square-meter area on the ground, limiting movement and emphasizing spatial constraints.Concept and artistic approach
The piece combines three distinct spaces – aerial, terrestrial, and the physical location – through a score that uses subtle tremors, intense physical tension, and extreme vibrations to create a heightened sense of drama and emotional intensity. These elements are designed to push the performer’s body to its limits.Roles and contributions
Myriam Gourfink is both the choreographer and the writer of the piece, with Deborah Lary as the sole performer. Kasper T. Toeplitz contributed to the composition, bass, live electronics, and lighting design, while Laurence Alquier created the costumes, adding to the visual and sensory experience.Institutional support
The production of Almasty received backing from several cultural institutions, including Les Hivernales – centre de développement chorégraphique national Avignon, the Forum – scène conventionnée du Blanc-Mesnil, and the Conseil général de la Seine-Saint-Denis, among others, highlighting its significance in the contemporary dance scene.
