Persona creators reflect on the series' essence

The creators of the Persona series, including Katsura Hashino, Shigenori Soejima, and Shoji Meguro, have shared their thoughts on what defines the franchise and their vision for an ideal RPG, according to reports from 4Gamer. Their insights were shared during a panel at the Tenth Mosaic festival in September.

Upcoming releases for Persona fans

Fans of the series can look forward to 2027, which is expected to bring new developments. These include the release of Persona 4 Revival on February 18 and the anticipated arrival of Persona 6, though details about the latter remain limited.

Evolution of the Persona universe

Soejima, the character designer for Persona 4, believes each entry in the series evolves to reflect its era, ensuring the franchise remains dynamic and relevant. This approach prevents the series from becoming stagnant and keeps it connected to contemporary themes.

Hashino’s vision and legacy

Hashino, the director of Persona 3, described the essence of Persona as "chaos," highlighting the variety of elements that make the games unique. He also emphasized that a good RPG should leave a lasting impression on players, potentially inspiring them in their lives.

Creative collaboration and new leadership

Meguro, the composer for Persona 5, highlighted the importance of collaboration with Hashino in creating music that fits each game’s themes and concepts. However, Hashino has since moved on to lead Studio Zerio, where he worked on Metaphor: ReFantazio, leaving the leadership of P-Studio to Kazuhisa Wada.

Future of the series uncertain

With Persona 6 remaining largely undisclosed since its announcement at the Xbox Games Showcase in June, the direction of the series under Wada’s leadership is unclear. More details may be revealed at the Game Awards 2026.
