Nikon has unveiled the Nikon Z5 IIC, a more affordable and compact version of its popular full-frame hybrid camera, the Z5 II. Designed for a wider audience, the Z5 IIC includes the same 24.5-megapixel full-frame sensor and Expeed 7 image processor as the Z5 II, which helps in producing high-quality images. It also features mechanical sensor stabilization that can compensate for camera shake up to 7.5 stops, making it easier to shoot in low-light conditions or handheld. The camera's autofocus system can detect up to ten different subject types, including a new feature for identifying fish, and it works effectively in very low light, down to -10 EV. The Z5 IIC can shoot 14 RAW images or 30 JPEG images per second, with a sensitivity range up to 64,000 ISO for capturing images in dim environments. It also includes 15 scene modes for automatic settings and offers live preview and grain control to help achieve a film-like appearance.
Priced at 1,549 euros body only, the Z5 IIC is 350 euros cheaper than the Z5 II, which was released in spring 2025 at 1,900 euros. The Z5 IIC removes the electronic viewfinder found in the Z5 II and uses a 3.2-inch swivel rear screen with 1.04 million points, compared to the Z5 II's higher-resolution 2.1 million points screen. It also features a single SD card slot instead of dual slots and lacks a navigation joystick for menu navigation. Despite these differences, the Z5 IIC is still built with a magnesium alloy body that is both durable and weather-resistant, and it weighs around 620 grams, making it lighter and more portable than the Z5 II.
The Z5 IIC is suitable for both photography and videography, offering 4K recording at 30 frames per second, 4K at 60 frames per second with a 1.5x crop, and Full HD at 120 frames per second for slow-motion shots. It supports N-RAW 12-bit video and various video codecs, giving users flexibility in how they capture and edit their footage. The camera is set to launch on October 15, 2026, in black and silver color options, with several lens kit choices available. A promotional offer allows buyers to receive an extra 50 euros off when purchasing the camera with eligible accessories, but this discount is only valid until January 6, 2027.
Nikon has positioned the Z5 IIC as a more accessible option compared to the Z5 II, targeting users who may not need an electronic viewfinder and prefer a smaller, more affordable camera. While the Z5 II is aimed at advanced photographers with more specialized features, the Z5 IIC is intended for beginners and those looking to upgrade from smartphone cameras or smaller-sensor devices. The Z5 IIC is already available in the UK starting at £1,349, while pricing details for the US and Australia are yet to be confirmed.
