Twenty-two IMOCA boats to start

Twenty-two IMOCA boats will begin the race on Sunday, November 1st, at 13:02 off the coast of Saint-Malo, following the entry of 115 skippers. The race spans over 3,542 nautical miles to Pointe-à-Pitre, and the current standings may change significantly during the trade winds and the final loop around the island.

Sam Goodchild's strong position

Sam Goodchild is a strong contender, having won several notable races including the Azimut Challenge in 2025 and The Ocean Race Europe. He is currently in second place in the IMOCA Globe Series with 280 points and has taken the helm of the 2022 IMOCA Verdier, previously sailed by Charlie Dalin.

Goodchild's past with Route du Rhum

Goodchild has a complicated history with the Route du Rhum, having failed to finish twice: once due to a broken mast in 2018 and another time due to a facial injury at the start in 2014. He acknowledges these past issues but does not dwell on them.

Goodchild's perspective on the race

Goodchild acknowledges that while he is a favorite, he is not the only one. He emphasizes that in a solo race, all competitors are on equal footing and that the race is unpredictable. He also notes that his boat, while suitable for a world tour, may not be as comfortable in the trade winds as it was in previous races.

The final loop challenge

The final loop around Guadeloupe is a known challenge, with its unpredictable weather and the need for constant alertness. Past winners have been caught off guard during this stage, and Goodchild warns that the race is not over until the finish line is crossed.

Jérémie Beyou's experience

Jérémie Beyou, who has competed in the Route du Rhum five times, is another strong contender. He has never won the race but has recently completed a successful transatlantic race, which has helped relaunch his Charal project. At 50, Beyou has extensive experience in solo sailing.

Newcomers and unknowns

Two newcomers, Sébastien Simon and Boris Herrmann, are sailing on new boats that have not yet fully proven their potential. Herrmann, who has participated in the Route du Rhum before, will now face the solo version of his new monohull for the first time.

Ambrogio Beccaria's rise

Ambrogio Beccaria has had a successful season, winning the Vendée Arctique and securing a solo victory in an IMOCA. Despite his achievements, he remains focused on the race itself and the unpredictability of offshore sailing.

Rising talent in the race

A new generation of sailors is emerging, including Corentin Horeau, Élodie Bonafous, Violette Dorange, and Francesca Clapcich. These competitors are challenging the established order and adding excitement to the race.

Right-handed foilers in the race

Eight right-handed foilers are participating, adding another layer of competition. Nico d'Estais, one of the foilers, is focused on achieving the best possible result and is aware of the challenges posed by his competitors.

Dense edition with multiple classes

The 13th edition of the race features 115 skippers across six classes, including 22 IMOCA boats. The Saint-Malo village has been open since October 20, preparing for the joint start off the Grouin. The current IMOCA record remains with Charles Caudrelier, who completed the race in 6 days, 19 hours, and 47 minutes.
