Royal Air Maroc, Morocco's national airline, has signed an agreement with Boeing to upgrade seven of its 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. The deal was announced on October 8, 2026, during the Marrakech Air Show, with Naoual Ait Hammou, director of aviation operations at Royal Air Maroc, and Fahad Mohammed Al Mheiri, Boeing's regional president for the Middle East and North Africa, signing the contract. The modernization project aims to bring the interior of the 787-8 aircraft up to the same comfort standards as the newer 787-9 models that have been added to Royal Air Maroc's fleet in recent years.
The upgrades will include new seating, a replacement of the in-flight entertainment system, and the introduction of Starlink, a satellite-based internet service that provides high-speed connectivity even over oceans and remote areas. These changes are part of an effort to enhance passenger experience and ensure that all Dreamliner aircraft operated by Royal Air Maroc meet current industry standards for comfort and technology.
Royal Air Maroc currently operates 13 Dreamliner aircraft, with its first five 787-8 models delivered between 2015 and 2016. These early aircraft feature Equinox seats in business class, provided by STELIA Aerospace (formerly Sogerma), and use a Thales in-flight entertainment system. Two more 787-8 aircraft were recently acquired from Xiamen Airlines, a Chinese carrier, adding to the airline's fleet.
The newer 787-9 aircraft in Royal Air Maroc's fleet are equipped with Super Diamond seats from Collins Aerospace, which are designed to offer enhanced comfort and support. The upgrade of the 787-8 aircraft is expected to bring their interiors in line with these newer models, ensuring a more consistent and modern passenger experience across the airline's Dreamliner fleet.
