Unheard recordings from the iconic British rock band Oasis, including material from their most successful years in the 1990s, are set to be auctioned on 3 October in Evesham, Worcestershire. The collection, known as The Desk Tapes, includes recordings from 63 live performances, soundchecks, and over 100 hours of rehearsals. It also contains original setlists, tour itineraries, a band-played Epiphone guitar, and an Oasis tour parka. The archive has been in the possession of Owain Richards for 20 years. His father, a former front-of-house sound engineer, was part of the band’s crew during their peak. Richards explained that his father meticulously labeled and recorded everything, often backing up the tapes to cassette multiple times. He noted that he grew up listening to these recordings, considering Oasis as much a part of the family as they were of the broader cultural landscape. The auction is being managed by Littleton Auctions, which claims the tapes, recorded directly from the sound desk, are the only master archive of their kind. Among the items to be sold is a pair of Adidas Kegler Super Ostrich trainers that were given to Noel Gallagher, the band’s guitarist and songwriter. Only 100 pairs of these trainers were ever made in 2000 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Adidas founder Adi Dassler. Ben Homer, managing director of Littleton Auctions, called the collection "one of the most exciting collections" the auction house has ever handled. The auction will be held both online and in person, with potential buyers required to register in advance and pay a deposit. This sale offers a rare opportunity for fans and collectors to acquire pieces of music history directly from the band's most prolific era. The Desk Tapes provide a unique insight into the inner workings of Oasis during their peak, capturing not only their performances but also the behind-the-scenes efforts that contributed to their legendary status. For those interested in acquiring a piece of this archive, the auction represents a significant event in the world of music memorabilia. The collection's historical value, combined with its rarity, is expected to attract considerable interest from both dedicated fans and professional collectors. The sale underscores the enduring legacy of Oasis and the lasting impact of their music on global culture.
