Ben PLG, a French rapper from Tourcoing, has released a new single titled Mentir au psy in collaboration with Orelsan. The track, made available on YouTube on Tuesday, September 29, features a series of flashbacks and rapid confessions about "small moments of daily life with poetry and self-deprecation," as described in a press release. The song blends nostalgia, irony, punchlines, and childhood memories, continuing Ben PLG's exploration of everyday experiences through music. Mentir au psy is the fourth track from Ben PLG's new album, L'Histoire sans fin, following Les avions dessinent dans le ciel, Toujours un gamin, and Histoire sans fin. The album will be released in stores on October 2 of the upcoming year under the label Pour la gloire. Ben PLG is an acronym for "Pour La Gloire," and the artist aims to depict the mundane aspects of daily life while embodying "the proletariat with attitude." Thomas Léger, Ben PLG's real name, explained in an interview with AFP in 2024 that his music is an ode to normality. "We are all normal people with extraordinary stories," he said, highlighting his focus on the everyday lives of ordinary individuals. Growing up in Tourcoing with his mother and two brothers, Ben PLG later lived between Dunkerque and Lille. He worked briefly in a factory, took up rap, and became a social worker in various settings, including psychiatric hospitals, juvenile prisons, and Ehpad (residential care facilities for the elderly). Since his first project in 2019, Ben PLG has primarily focused on the North of France, depicting its deserted city centers, working-class communities, and the legacy of the old steel industry. His lyrics often include vivid images of daily life, such as a plastic cup from a community center or a "cigarette break" on a highway rest area. Meanwhile, Orelsan has released his fifth solo album, La Fuite en avant, on November 7, 2025, which reflects themes from his film Yoroï. This album is more introspective and less focused on social issues compared to his previous work.
