French travelers seek unique, stress-free vacations, prioritizing well-being and personalized experiences over routine.
French travelers seek change in vacations
According to a study by Booking.com, 79% of French travelers want to use their vacation to experience something that does not resemble their usual routine. The online travel booking platform's "Travel Predictions 2027" report indicates that 87% of French respondents would be willing to take a long-haul flight if it ensured they arrive relaxed and in good shape.Well-being during travel is a priority
Sleep and peace are among the priorities on board. The services sought include menus, drinks, or recommendations to promote sleep on board, cited by 26% of respondents. Next are skincare kits (17%) and lighting designed to reduce the effects of jet lag (16%).Preferences for quiet and comfort on board
Additionally, 27% would gladly choose a "child-free and quiet" area. However, the study does not specify the budget travelers would be willing to spend to obtain these services.Desire for change dominates at the destination
Once at the destination, the desire for change dominates. Nearly eight out of ten French travelers, or 79%, want to choose their vacation to "do something that does not resemble them." For 30%, an unexpected trip must even allow them to surprise their loved ones.Travel choices based on mood and budget
"Travel is increasingly about expressing who you are, rather than following a formula," comments Paul Hennessy, marketing director of Booking.com. For 60% of French respondents, the choice of a destination could depend on the emotional state sought, rather than the location itself. And 56% would be willing to use a tool, artificial intelligence, or an app recommending a trip according to their mood.Budget influences travel companions and tasks
The budget also influences the choice of travel companions. Thus, 38% have already reconsidered the people they travel with due to differences in financial means. Approximately 40% declare having experienced tensions on vacation related to divergent budget expectations. Professional disconnection remains another concern: 47% would be interested in an artificial intelligence assistant capable of taking over during their absence. More specifically, 37% would accept entrusting it with their emails and certain administrative tasks.Study details and scope
The survey was conducted online last summer among 28,230 adults in 32 countries and territories, including 1,004 in France. All intended to travel within the next 12 to 24 months. These results reflect declared intentions, and not reservations already made.
