Back Market launches a new line of visibly damaged but functional phones and computers to promote sustainability and affordability.
Back Market introduces damaged but functional devices
Back Market, a company specializing in selling refurbished electronics, has announced a new product line at its annual launch conference. This line includes phones and computers that are visibly damaged but still fully functional. The company aims to promote sustainability by encouraging consumers to extend the life of already manufactured devices.Products include visible damage but full functionality
The new range offers products with visible signs of wear or damage, but they are guaranteed to be fully functional. Each item comes with a one-year warranty and a thirty-day return period. These products are sold at significantly reduced prices, making them more accessible to a wider audience.Similar initiative by Ateliers du Bocage
This approach is reminiscent of the Ateliers du Bocage, another company that sells "K-Bossed" computers, some of which are partially non-functional. However, Back Market clarifies that any defects in its products are purely aesthetic and do not affect performance or functionality.Initial availability and product variety
The new range will initially be available only through the Back Market app and in limited quantities to create impact. Despite the limited availability, the company plans to offer "tens of thousands of products," including popular models like iPhones, Galaxy S smartphones, and MacBook laptops.Automation supports quality assurance
To support this initiative, Back Market will use Back Bot and Back Check. These tools include a machine that can automatically inspect smartphones at a rate of up to 10,000 devices per month and a diagnostic software that can check Apple computers in five to ten minutes. This automation helps ensure product quality and reduces the need for replacement parts.
