A student is under investigation for alleged rape following an incident that occurred during an integration weekend at a campsite in Isère, France. An 18-year-old first-year economics and management student at the University of Grenoble Alpes reported being a victim of rape during the night of Friday, October 2, to Saturday, October 3, by another third-year student. According to Le Dauphiné Libéré, the accused student was placed under judicial supervision on Monday, October 5, after formal charges of rape were filed by the investigating judge in Vienne, following 48 hours of custody. The event, organized by the student office, took place at the Vernioz campsite and brought together more than 300 students from the University of Grenoble. The incident allegedly occurred during the first night of the weekend. The 18-year-old student was found shocked next to the pool. Intoxicated, she told security personnel that she had been sexually abused by a man she did not know. After this statement, the accused student, from Pont-de-Beauvoisin, attempted to flee and provided a false identity to the agents. He was then arrested by the gendarmes of the Roussillon brigade. During his custody, he denied the allegations, claiming he had not consumed alcohol and that the encounter was consensual. The accused student, who had no prior legal record, was formally charged with rape on Monday, October 5. He did not wish to speak before the investigating magistrate. He was ultimately released and placed under judicial supervision. According to the newspaper, the prosecutor, who has opened an investigation, directly submitted the case to the judge of freedom and detention for requests regarding provisional detention. The investigation continues under a rogatory commission, which is a legal procedure used to gather evidence and determine the context of the reported facts. The student has been prohibited from contacting the victim. The case highlights the ongoing efforts by French authorities to address sexual violence and ensure justice for victims, while also balancing the legal rights of the accused. The outcome of the investigation will depend on the evidence gathered and the conclusions drawn by the judicial authorities.
