Protest in Perpignan

On Monday, October 26, 2026, a gathering was organized in front of the Castillet in Perpignan by approximately twenty political parties, trade unions, and activist groups. The event aimed to address growing concerns about the spread of hate speech in public discourse.

Participating organizations

The groups involved included the CGT, a major French trade union; SOS Racisme, an organization fighting against racism; the LDH, a human rights group; the PS, the Socialist Party; the PC, the Communist Party; and the Young Ecos, an environmental activist group. These groups represent a broad spectrum of political and social interests.

Focus on hate speech

The participants expressed concern over the rise of hate speech, which they believe is increasingly present in media, online platforms, and public conversations. They argued that such speech contributes to social division and discrimination.

Call for action

The demonstrators called for stronger legal measures and greater responsibility from media and technology companies to combat hate speech. They also urged the government to take a more active role in promoting tolerance and protecting vulnerable communities.
