Louis Renier wins game pie championship

Louis Renier, a chef from La Chèvre d’Or in Èze, has won the second edition of the World Championship of Game Pie – Le Meilleur Pithiviers, which took place on October 27 in Chambard, Kaysersberg. The competition is dedicated to the traditional French dish known as pithiviers, a type of savory pie often made with game meat.

Renier’s previous achievements

Renier previously placed second in the 2022 World Championship of Rabbit in Royal Sauce, another competition focused on French culinary traditions. His success in the game pie contest was attributed to the delicacy of his pastry, the precision of his cooking, and the balance of his sauce.

Other competitors and podium finishers

Florent Peresse of Les Prés d’Eugénie took second place, and Nicolas Delaroque of La Maison de Nico in San Francisco completed the podium. The competition attracted participants from around the world, highlighting the global interest in traditional French gastronomy.

Founders and organizers of the competition

The competition was founded by the Meilleurs Ouvriers de France Olivier Nasti, Éric Briffard, and Fabien Pairon, and was under the honorary presidency of chef Michel Roth. These chefs are renowned for their expertise in French cuisine and their commitment to preserving culinary traditions.

Judging process and criteria

Two separate juries evaluated the candidates: one focused on the tasting of the pies and the other on the technical skills used in the kitchen. This dual approach ensured that both the flavor and the craftsmanship of the entries were thoroughly assessed.
