Stranger Than Heaven, developed by RGG Studios and published by SEGA, is set to launch on January 15, 2027, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. The game spans five cities and five different eras in the 20th century, following the journey of Makoto Daito, an immigrant with an American father and a Japanese mother. After losing his parents, Makoto travels to Japan with his friend and future rival, Yu Shinjo, arriving in Fukuoka in 1915. The game aims to explore themes of identity, displacement, and cultural blending through its narrative and setting. The first setting of the game is Kokura, a neighborhood in Fukuoka, described as a traditional port city undergoing rapid industrialization during the early 20th century. The area features a tram network, which players can use to explore the city, as well as various businesses such as food stands, pharmacies, and armories. Players will be able to interact with residents, enter homes, and participate in activities like arm wrestling or finger knife games, which were popular forms of entertainment at the time. A recent gameplay video released by ActuGaming.net highlights Kokura in 1915, showcasing the city's unique blend of traditional Japanese culture and emerging modern influences. The video also demonstrates gameplay mechanics, such as using a period-appropriate camera that requires manual adjustments to take photographs, and the ability to fish for food. These features aim to immerse players in the historical setting while offering a variety of interactive experiences. The game will include multiple trailers focusing on different eras and cities, with the first one centered around Kokura. Additionally, Stranger Than Heaven will be available on Xbox Game Pass PC and Ultimate, providing players with access to the game through Microsoft's subscription service.
