Match postponed due to security concerns

The Top 14 rugby match between Montpellier Hérault Rugby and Castres Olympique, originally set for Saturday, October 31, has been moved to Sunday, November 1 at 15:00. The change was made after local authorities expressed concerns about potential public order issues linked to planned Yellow Vests protests near the Septeo Stadium in Montpellier.

Security concerns cited by local authorities

The prefecture of the Hérault stated that the match could not be held under optimal security conditions, especially with planned protests and the timing of Halloween celebrations. Previous incidents of vandalism in the area also contributed to the decision to reschedule the game.

Agreement reached by all involved parties

The Ligue Nationale de Rugby (LNR), Montpellier Hérault Rugby, and broadcaster Canal+ have agreed to the new date. Fans who bought tickets through the official ticket office do not need to take any additional steps, and their tickets will be valid for the rescheduled match.

Impact on Castres Olympique’s schedule

The postponement has disrupted Castres Olympique’s travel plans, with their trip to Montpellier now delayed from Friday to Saturday. The team will return on Sunday after the match, which changes their recovery schedule and requires adjustments to training and preparation for the next game.

Other matches also rescheduled

The LNR has also adjusted other matches, including moving the Vannes-UBB game to Sunday, November 8, and rescheduling the Toulouse-Clermont match to Saturday, November 7 at 14:30. These changes were made due to similar concerns about public order and police resources. Fans of the Montpellier-Castres match can still watch the game on Canal+ Sport.
